Stadium High School – Tacoma, WA

We walked around Stadium High School today, yes the one from “10 things I hate about you”, thus the Heath Ledger cameo above. The really really cool building that houses Stadium High School was originally intended to be a hotel in the style of a French chateau. Construction began in View full post »

Chevron Trend

Have you guys noticed all the chevron pattern everywhere you look? Fashion, interiors, stationary and last week Mad Men gave a nod to the current wave of chevron by showing us it’s roots in the mid-century. A great show and a design education too:)

Here’s the links for the above pictures: Ties, Phone, Floor Decal, Cards, Purse, Mad Men.

My First Wedding Collection

For the last few months I have been working with my soon-to-be sister-in-law to design this collection of wedding collateral. Her and my brother-in-law are going to be getting married soon in Port Townsend under a giant madrona tree in vintage inspired attire. The items below were View full post »

From Nail Polish to Logo

It’s a good thing that I needed eggs today! If I hadn’t gone to the grocery store I would not have seen the colors on these nail polishes and put that together with this green foundation stick that I had in my purse (why would I have green foundation, well lets just say it has to do with a sunburn and a knowledge of complimentary colors). And if I hadn’t become possessed by the inspiration that I found in these colors then I would not have finally figured out the logo for View full post »

Leavenworth, WA

Last weekend nineteen crazy women in colorful wigs did Leavenworth, Washington like it has never been done before. We met in honor of my soon-to-be sister Kelsey’s up-coming wedding and I had more fun than I have had in a long time. It was great to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. We visited the most beautiful wineries, stayed in the absolute best rental cabin in town, and may have listened to a few Justin Bieber songs (I can not be held

The Hotel Murano – Tacoma, WA

A few weeks back we were in Tacoma for one of Cory’s gigs at the Tacoma Comedy Club and I was thrilled to get the chance to stay at The Hotel Murano. Staying at the Hotel Murano feels like living in a beautiful modern art museum where each floor is dedicated to a different artist. Big City Coffee – Boise, ID

Okay this place was so good that we went back twice during our one night stay in Boise this summer. It was what I would venture to call a symphony of mid-west charm and flavor  (although I’ve never been to the mid-west, so I don’t really know what I am talking about). If I had to View full post »

The Good Mod – Portland, OR

Thanks to my “Portland Style Scouts” Kevin and Jenny for helping me find The Good Mod. The Good Mod is a very charming 11,000 sq.ft. warehouse space filled with wonderful mid-century and industrial furniture and artwork. The pieces that you will find at The Good Mod are not View full post »

A Bathtub for Barbara

What happens when you have a very narrow bathroom and a homeowner that loves her very large bathtub? A very creative space plan. This master bathroom was actually carved out of some space that previously belonged to the kitchen and that left us a 20.5′ x 7′ space to work with. View full post »

Breakfast at The Ace – Portland, OR

One of my favorite parts of staying at The Ace in Portland is eating breakfast in this cute little breakfast space. It has a very homey European vibe with a breakfast spread that includes items like dried fruit, greek yogurt, cured meats, fancy cheeses, granola, and of course coffee fromView full post »

Ace Room 302 – Portland OR.

Recently my husband Cory was booked for a weekend at Harvey’s Comedy Club in Portland and we got the chance to stay at the Ace Hotel (thank you TravelZoo.com). I have written about The Ace in Portland before, but I had never seen the rooms so I am a really excited to share View full post »

Bathroom Remodel – Ruth and Keith

Hi all! So I decided that I would start posting about my own work as well as the places that I visit. My first post in this new series is a very cute little bathroom remodel for Ruth, Keith, and Cali. They are a family of three with a very charming two bedroom, one bathroom house built in the early 1900′s. I will eventually share with you the kitchen and living room remodel as well, but today I will focus on the bathroom. In the picture View full post »

The Jupiter Hotel – Portland, OR

Recently were were lucky enough to take advantage of The Jupiter Hotel’s last minute room for $59 policy. We showed up just before midnight and scored a room at this irresistible price. Luck us and luck you because I have so much to show you. In this post I will start with the hotel View full post »

Bob’s Corn – Snohomish, WA

So if you haven’t been to a corn maze this year you have 12 days left to get that crossed off the list, and Bob’s is the one to go to. Cory and I went last weekend and had a great time. Oh, but Bob’s corn is not just corn! It is a pumpkin patch, a general store, awesome food, home made preserves, a hay ride and even a cow train…. I’ll explain that one below.

Modern Hotel & Bar – Boise, ID

Cory recently had a gig in Boise Idaho and I was very pleasantly surprised by this very swanky little hotel that we found. Who knew that Boise had so much style? The Modern is a remodeled Travel Lodge brought to new life with luxury bathrooms and reproduction mid-century furniture. The hotel is in the Linen District which I will post more about later. It was a great little View full post »

El Camino – San Diego, CA

Hola! Today’s post is about El Camino in San Diego. I happened to be walking by this summer when the turquoise, patterned wallpaper in the entryway pulled me right in the door. Once in the main dining room the pink glass in the windows was View full post »

Check Out My New Gallery

I added a new feature to the website today. You will now see a button on the menu bar above and the categories to the right where you can check out my interior design portfolio. I will add more pictures as I get time to go out and take them. Last year we did somewhere over forty remodels and I haven’t had time to photograph many of them, so there is lots more to come. Thanks for taking the time to look!

My Studio! – (near) Seattle, WA

Tonight I am sharing something a little different with you… my very own swanky place! A couple of years ago as my interior design business was expanding we decided that it was time to remodel the empty building behind our house and turn it into my studio. Below are the before and afters. When it comes to creating, I really love to be in a neutral space and you will see View full post »

The Farm – Snohomish, WA

Hi All, It’s time for one of my favorite trips all year long. The trip right down the road to “The Farm” in the Snohomish Valley. I look forward to this fun filled day all year long and this year did not disappoint.

The Ace Hotel – Portland, OR

You may have noticed that I tend to LOVE anything designed by the Ace Group from my previous posts about the Ace Seattle, the Ace Palm Springs and Rudy’s Barber Shop. Well here is another good one for ya. The Ace Hotel in Portland has it’s own PDX hipster blend of creaky floors and record players. It is distinctly different from the crisp mod/nature vibe of the Seattle View full post »

Boomerang – San Diego, CA

Now I gotta tell ya about Boomerang for Modern. In July when we were in San Diego I took a day to walk though the design district in Little Italy. I sipped a latte and shopped for art supplies and best of all I got a chance to take some pictures of Boomerang for Modern. Boomerang is a store that I had read about but had not yet View full post »

Pickathon – Happy Valley, OR

Okay, so I will begin to try to update you on all of this summer’s adventures. This post is about Pickathon which is a three day, camp-in, music festival about 20 minutes outside of Portland. We heard about it last spring from a friend of a friend who I would call a Pickathon disciple. She was so enthusiastic that I couldn’t help but be convinced that we needed to go check it out. The festival takes place on a farm with View full post »

Movie Night at The Pearl – San Diego, CA

Donald Wexler Exhibit – Palm Springs, CA

The Wexler exhibit was one of my favorite things in Palm Springs this year. Wexler brought new methods of steel construction from the commercial building industry  into the residential neighborhoods of Palm Springs and is known for his pre-fab neighborhoods built by the Alexander Company. It was really fun to see pictures and View full post »

The Nines – Portland, OR

Welp, it’s Friday night and I was supposed to meet a friend but it looks like I got stood up. It’s just me and John Mayer and this glass of red wine tonight… Here are some pictures of where I might rather be. The Nines in Portland was recommended by friends several times but when I first drove by I thought “what’s the big deal”. It looked like a little tiny lobby (the picture above) which was cool, but not much to see really. On this last trip to View full post »

Hunt and Gather – Portland, OR

Hope everyone had a fantastic fourth of July. We got a nice tan in Eastern Washington and had tons of family fun at the river. Here are some more pictures from last week’s trip to Portland. Barista – Portland, OR

While Cory was attending a teaching conference yesterday I explored NE Alberta St. I found lots of interesting shops and restaurants to post about. The first one I will tell you about is Barista. Barista is in a deceivingly modern building which contrasts the funky rustic look of the cafe. I liked the coffee brown stain on the concrete floor, the antique View full post »
